My payment failed
30-second answer
You'll get an email immediately. Open the Stripe Customer Portal from Billing & Plan and update your card. You have a 7-day grace period before access is suspended. Stripe retries automatically.
Step-by-step
Step 1: Don't panic
Failed payments are usually a card issue (expired, declined, insufficient funds). You have 7 full days of grace-period access — full features stay on while you fix the card.
Step 2: Update your card
- Open Billing & Plan
- Click Manage payment methods
- Add a new card or update the existing one
- Set it as default
Step 3: Stripe retries automatically
Once you update the card, Stripe retries the charge within minutes. You'll get a success email when it goes through.
Step 4: What if 7 days pass?
If the card still hasn't worked after 7 days, the account is archived (tombstoned). You can't log in. Re-subscribing on the pricing page un-tombstones — all your data is restored.
Common reasons for declines
- Expired card → update it
- Insufficient funds → wait or add another card
- Bank flagged it as fraud → call your bank to approve the charge, or use a different card
- Card replaced (new number after lost/stolen) → add the new one and remove the old
Things to know
- The 7-day grace clock starts on the FIRST failed charge. Stripe's automatic retries don't reset it.
- Day-3 and day-6 reminder emails are sent automatically — check spam if you don't see them.
