How do notifications work?
30-second answer
Three channels: in-app, email, push. Tune each one in Notification Settings. Some notifications are workflow-critical (billing, account security) and bypass your preferences.
Step-by-step
The 3 channels
- In-app — bell icon in the topbar, sidebar dots
- Email — sent to your account email
- Push — browser or mobile push (requires permission)
Setting preferences
Open Notification Settings. For each notification type (mentions, replies, course progress, event reminders, billing) you can toggle each channel independently.
Quiet hours
Set quiet hours in your timezone — push and email are suppressed during that window. In-app dots still update.
Digests
Switch any noisy notification type from per-event to daily digest — one email per day instead of N.
Workflow-critical notifications
A few notification types always send by email regardless of preferences:
- Payment failed / past due / receipt
- Account archived / chargeback / dispute
- Live event start (if you RSVPed)
- Recording you purchased is ready
These exist so you don't miss anything that affects your access.
Things to know
- Push notifications require browser permission — enable in your browser settings if the toggle doesn't stick.
- Workflow-critical notifications can't be muted, by design.
